On September 15, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office will hold an expert online webinar on the social policy of New Belarus.
Repression and the Lukashenka regime’s ineffective policies are increasing the social vulnerability of Belarusians. Access to healthcare, pensions, and social protection is an especially pressing issue for people in Belarus and those forced into exile.
Experts and civil society representatives will discuss how the democratic forces of Belarus can support Belarusians today and what the social policy of New Belarus should look like.
Special attention will be paid to the Raionka project, which enables Belarusians to receive consultations from Belarusian medical professionals, as well as to rebuilding social capital — trust, mutual support, and civic participation.
The discussion will feature:
- Irina McLean – Coordinator at the People’s Consulate of Belarus in Scotland, who leads national work to develop research governance and ethics standards for social care in Scotland, drawing on extensive professional experience across social work, health and social care;
- Dr. Lev Lvovsky – Academic Director at BEROC, co-author of a pension reform concept for Belarus;
- Lana Willebrand – Program Quality and Development Lead, Union to Union (Swedish union movement’s joint international cooperation development organization).
It will be moderated by Dr. Vadzim Mažejka, Head of the Kaściuška Security Studies Institute.
