  • Discussion “Eastern Shield: How to Strengthen European Security from the United Kingdom to the Belarus–Baltic Line”

    10.03.2026

    On March 10, an expert discussion titled “Eastern Shield: How to Strengthen European Security from the United Kingdom to the Belarus–Baltic Line” will take place in Tallinn.

    The event is organized by the Representation of Democratic Belarus in Estonia in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.

    The discussion will focus on security issues along Europe’s eastern flank — from Ukraine through Belarus to the Baltic states. Participants will discuss how to strengthen deterrence in the region, what lessons can be drawn from Russia’s war against Ukraine, and what risks to regional security arise from the use of Belarus as a strategic platform for pressure.

    The discussion will feature:

    • Sir Liam Fox, former UK Secretary of State for Defence and Secretary of State for International Trade;
    • Jonatan Vseviov, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia;
    • Volodymyr Boiechko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia;
    • Dzianis Kuchynski, Diplomatic Advisor to the President-elect of Belarus, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

    The discussion will be moderated by Vytis Jurkonis, Director of the Vilnius Office of Freedom House.

    Prior to the panel discussion, experts from the BelPol initiative will hold an analytical briefing on the militarization of Belarus, the impact of sanctions on the Lukashenka regime, and the current political and economic situation in the country.

    The event will take place at the Representation of Democratic Belarus in Tallinn. It will bring together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, security experts, and researchers.
