On August 21, the NeverMore68 Festival in Prague will host the opening of “Russian Brotherhood”, an exhibition by Belarusian artist and graphic designer Arthur Vakarov.
The exhibition consists of 10 posters exploring the transformation of the concept of “brotherhood” in Russian politics and propaganda, where it has been used for centuries to justify the control and subjugation of other nations.
Through visual art, the exhibition highlights the contradiction between the declared idea of “brotherhood” and its real consequences — the existence of dependent dictatorships, restrictions on freedom, censorship, and aggression against nations that refuse to submit.
“I am one of millions of Belarusians who are still trying to break free from Russian brotherhood. We continue to suffer today, just as your people did several decades ago. My project is an example of social design intended to remind us of historical truth and draw attention to a threat that still exists,” says Mr. Vakarov.
Arthur Vakarov is one of the best-known Belarusian graphic designers, co-founder of the Adliga studio, and creator of iconic visual materials for the Belarusian democratic movement since 2020. In 2022, he had to flee Belarus due to repression and now lives in Poland.
The event is organized by the Office of Belarus Democratic Forces in the Czech Republic as part of the NeverMore68 Festival.
