Throughout March, the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya continued its work in supporting political prisoners, strengthening international cooperation, and reinforcing the role of the democratic forces.
The focus of the month was on the release of political prisoners, Freedom Day 2026, and extensive international engagement.
Below are the key developments from the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
- Release of 250 political prisoners. The Office continues its systematic work to support them and to draw international attention to the need to end repression in Belarus.
- A broad campaign around Freedom Day 2026. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s team was involved in organizing and promoting events worldwide and calling for international solidarity with Belarus.
- High-level meetings. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella; Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni; and President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
- Dozens of meetings with the Belarusian diaspora in Poland, Lithuania, and other countries. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with former political prisoners, civic groups, experts, cultural and academic initiatives, as well as held personal meetings with Belarusians.
- Active international engagement. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and her advisors met with European leaders, MPs, ambassadors, and international organizations (including in Brussels, Riga, Rome, and Strasbourg).
- Consultations with the UK. The second round of consultations between the Government of the United Kingdom and the democratic forces of Belarus took place in London.
- Discussion at the Lithuanian Seimas. A roundtable discussion took place at the Seimas of Lithuania, dedicated to Belarus’ role in regional security and cooperation with the democratic forces.
