A closed briefing, “Wanted by the Dictator: The Red Notice State”, was held at the Office of Belarus Democratic Forces in the Czech Republic. The event focused on the Lukashenka regime’s use of international wanted-person mechanisms to carry out transnational repression against Belarusians.
The event was opened by Director of the Prague Office, Kryścina Šyjanok, who recalled the inclusion of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski on the wanted list and called for international cooperation in countering repression.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Affairs, Leanid Marozau, presented an analytical report on the abuse of Interpol mechanisms and politically motivated extradition requests. The report was prepared by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office in cooperation with BELPOL, Cyber Partisans, and lawyer Alaksiej Michalevic.
The aim of this paper is to prevent international law enforcement mechanisms from being used for the political persecution of Belarusians.
Representatives of 12 foreign embassies, as well as key Czech state institutions, attended the briefing, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic; the International Police Cooperation Department of the Police Presidium; the National Centre for Combating Organized Crime; and the Office for the Documentation and Investigation of the Crimes of Communism.
