Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, during the World Economic Forum in Davos. She presented several proposals from the Belarusian Wiki community.
- Belarusian Wikipedians should participate in Wikimedia Foundation events. Mr. Wales confirmed that they will be invited to Wikimania so they can share their experiences. Both sides agreed to enhance contact between the Belarusian Wiki community and the Wikimedia Foundation to address key issues and expand support.
- The priority of Russian-language Wikipedia articles over Belarusian-language ones in search engines should be addressed to enhance the visibility of Wikipedia in Belarusian.
- Security should be enhanced for Belarusian Wikipedians facing repression. Joint programs could be launched to support them.
At the end of the meeting, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked Mr. Wales for the recent decision to use “Belarus” instead of “Belorussia” in Russian-language Wikipedia.
