Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos for the third consecutive year. This year, during the “Future of Belarus” event, the Belarusian leader shared her vision for the country’s recovery after the dictatorship and its path toward economic revival.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya outlined 5 practical steps.
- Create conditions for people to return from exile. Establish an environment that encourages businesses, talented entrepreneurs, and experts to return to Belarus, bringing financial capital, knowledge, experience, and contacts.
- Make Belarus a competitive and attractive market, opening the economy to investors from around the world.
- Restore Belarus’ status as an IT nation known for its innovative startups and initiatives.
- Invest in new technologies.
- Begin the process of European integration and join the Council of Europe, learning from the countries that have already undergone transitional periods, leveraging their best practices, and avoiding their mistakes.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The window of opportunity can open at any moment, and we must be ready. That’s why today in Davos we are building connections with governments, parliaments, and global corporations – this will facilitate a quicker and smoother transition. It is crucial, especially in the early stages, to implement all necessary reforms, support private initiatives, and attract investments to Belarus”.
