  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Tyranny will knock on your door. What will you do then?”

    January 17, 2024

The Belarusian leader participated in a discussion on regional security within the main program of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Other speakers included the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, President of Hungary, Katalin Novák, Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that Russia’s propagandistic narratives are gradually infiltrating the democratic world.

“When I hear opinions like, “We should not get involved in this war; we need to keep our country safe”, I see that the Russian propaganda is winning. Russia is doing everything to make the world believe, “We have nothing to do with this, the war is only in Ukraine. Let them deal with it”. But if the situation remains as it is, tyranny will gradually knock on your door. What will you do then?

Band-aid solutions only deepen the crisis because supporting those fighting against tyranny while still engaging with dictators allows tyranny to strengthen and endure. This must be stopped”, noted Ms. Tsikhanouskaya.

Additionally, the leader touched upon war fatigue: “Say about your fatigue to a Ukrainian soldier in the trenches or a political prisoner in Belarus who is being abused in prison. They continue to resist, and so, we must fight alongside them”.
