  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with released political prisoners and the Volnyja NGO in Warsaw

    October 08, 2026

On October 7, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the Free Belarus Museum in Warsaw to meet with released political prisoners, the team of Volnyja, as well as mentors and volunteers who support political prisoners after their release.

She thanked the volunteers, Volnyja, and other NGOs helping those who have been released. The former political prisoners themselves also highlighted the comprehensive support and care they had received, as well as the prompt assistance and quality consultations.

The meeting focused on the challenges Belarusians face in Poland, including legal status, driving licenses, and bank accounts. The parties discussed efforts to secure further releases of political prisoners, the progress made so far, and possible help for those who remain behind bars. They also addressed the Lukashenka regime’s continued pressure on political prisoners’ relatives.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “There is a great deal of daily work behind the support provided after release. Someone helps with documents, someone accompanies a person to the bank, and someone helps find an answer to a question a released prisoner is facing for the first time. I am truly grateful to Volnyja, the volunteers, and all the NGOs that take on this responsibility. It is important that people can seek help and receive it in a timely manner.

We must continue our efforts to ensure that everyone who has been unjustly imprisoned is released”.
