During the Munich Security Conference, the Belarusian leader engaged in talks with Meredith Whittaker, President of the Signal Foundation, focusing on its eponymous messaging service.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed the threats faced by Belarusians inside the country and emphasized the importance of Signal for secure communication. The leader also conveyed proposals from Belarusian activists and human rights defenders to Ms. Whittaker regarding improvements to the messenger’s security and user convenience for people in Belarus. Additionally, they discussed the Belarusian language support in the messenger. The President of Signal pledged to designate a contact person to work with requests from Belarusians.
On the sidelines of the conference, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Anna Makanju, OpenAI’s Vice President of Global Affairs, the company behind ChatGPT.
Ms. Makanju and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed free or discounted access to ChatGPT 4.0 for Belarusian NGOs and media, as well as training on detecting disinformation using ChatGPT for journalists and activists. They also discussed plans to improve the Belarusian language model of ChatGPT.
