  • Alexander Dabravolski: “Dictatorship is like another Chornobyl for Belarus”

    April 28, 2025

Today, Belarusians in Vilnius honored the memory of the victims of the Chornobyl disaster. Dozens of people joined the events dedicated to the 39th anniversary of one of the most tragic events in Belarus’ history. Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Swedes, representatives of international organizations, politicians, and experts also participated in the event. The rally was held to protest against the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Senior Political Advisor, Alexander Dabravolski, represented the Belarusian leader’s Office at the event. He noted that the explosion at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant awakened Belarusian society, revealing that the Soviet system was criminal, irresponsible, and deceitful.

Alexander Dabravolski: “Through remembering the Chornobyl tragedy, we must do everything possible to ensure that such disasters never happen again. Lukashenka’s dictatorship has been like another Chornobyl for Belarus, affecting almost every family through repression, political imprisonment, forced emigration, and the threat to our independence. However, Belarusians have learned to live without state support, help one another, and fight for their values. Dictatorship is not eternal, and the time will come when the people themselves will decide their future”.

Participants of the rally adopted a resolution, calling for the restoration of Belarus’ nuclear-free and neutral status. The event concluded with a symbolic bicycle ride through the streets of Vilnius.
