  • Media briefing “Friends or Foes: How Attitudes Towards Belarusians in Ukraine Are Changing”

    Online
    05.10.2026
    14:00

    On October 5, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office will organize a media briefing on Ukrainian public attitudes towards Belarusians. The briefing will be held in Belarusian.

    Today, attitudes towards Belarusians in Ukraine are even more positive than in Poland or Lithuania. This is the result of several years of work by democratic politicians, volunteers, activists, and civil society members who have supported Ukraine.

    After 2022, when the Lukashenka regime became a co-aggressor with Russia, Belarus–Ukraine relations reached their lowest point. However, Belarusian society and democratic forces continued to support Ukraine — from fighters of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment and Belarusian volunteers to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and expert initiatives.

    In 2026, a notable shift took place: Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya made her first official visit to Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while the 5th Ostrogski Forum was held in Kyiv with the support of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    During the briefing, participants of the Ostrogski Forum and the authors of recent studies will discuss Belarus–Ukraine relations and their future.

    The briefing will feature:

    • Franаk Viacorka — Chief Advisor to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya;
    • Andrei Kazakevich — PhD, Belarusian political scientist, Director of the Political Sphere Institute for Political Studies, and Academic Lead of the study “Belarusian Politics and Culture in Ukrainian Public Opinion”;
    • Yevhen Mahda — PhD, Ukrainian political scientist, Director of the Institute for World Policy, and co-author of the Belarus–Ukraine Relations Index 2026.

    Moderator: Vadim Mojeiko — PhD, Head of the Kaściuška Security Studies Institute.

    The briefing will take place in Belarusian on 5 October, from 14:00 to 15:30 CET. To register, please email ana@tsikhanouskaya.org.
