  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited an exhibition on Belarusian bagpipes in Warsaw

    May 19, 2026

An exhibition titled Dudy: Instrument, History, Symbol opened at the Free Belarus Museum in Warsaw and was visited by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. The exhibition explores the Belarusian bagpipe — an instrument that nearly disappeared in the mid-20th century but later returned as an important national symbol of Belarusian culture and the country’s historical ties with Europe.

The exhibition features traditional instruments, archival materials, maps, and an interactive bagpipe workshop. It is especially significant that the event is taking place as part of Warsaw’s Museum Night, helping bring Belarusian culture into a broader international context. The project was organized with the support of the City of Warsaw.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya joined a guided tour led by the exhibition’s author and researcher of Belarusian bagpipe traditions, Yauhen Baryshnikau, and met with the project’s team.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This is deeply important work — restoring and rethinking our cultural symbols. Exhibitions like this help us better understand our history and who we are. I am very grateful to everyone who invests their time and effort into preserving and developing Belarusian culture, keeping it alive and visible today”.

The exhibition was created by Yauhen Baryshnikau and is hosted at the Free Belarus Museum.
