  • “Let’s be his voice and use his words to share his ideas”. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on anniversary of Siarhei Tsikhanouski’s arrest

    May 29, 2024

Today marks four years since Siarhei Tsikhanouski was detained. It has been a long time since anyone, including his family and close friends, has heard from him. But all his loved ones, friends, and allies believe in his words and continue the cause he lived for. In today’s video, they become his voice and share his ideas.

📌 “I want local self-government in Belarus. So that we can choose our village chief, mayor, or any other leader — and hold them accountable for what they have done for the people”.

📌 “I want independent courts and fair trials in Belarus. So that every person, if they have not done anything wrong, can prove it in court. Right, we strive for the rotation of power, fair elections, local self-government, and independent courts”.

📌 “I believe we must restore the constitution stolen from us. Moreover, the state’s basic law must be enforced. Right now, it is being disregarded”.

📌 “Every nation deserves its government, and I believe Belarusians have already changed and deserve a different leadership”.

📌 “It should be the Belarusian people who decide where the country should go, not one person”.

📌 “No one knows how much time we have. Tomorrow we could be hit by a car. So we must live today. And we must live in a way that, when looking back on our life, we have no shame. Live with dignity. Then we will never regret anything”.

📌 “Fear is what keeps us in this situation. One person holds 9.5 million in fear. Let’s get rid of this fear already”.

📌 “Do not rely on anyone but yourselves. No one will fight for your rights. No one will stop the lawlessness except you. I wish you to become citizens who take responsibility for Belarus. Fight for your rights!”

📌 “I improved myself when I started thinking about love for my neighbor, about what I live for — and what will remain after me. And when you live in such a way that, if you die today, you wouldn’t be ashamed of what you’ve done and how you lived, you won’t fear death. You will fear nothing”.

📌 “By compromising with your conscience, closing your eyes to injustice and lawlessness, and staying silent, many think they will save their lives. In reality, they only prolong their existence, not their lives”.

📌 “I believe that together we will build a true country to live in. I sincerely wish all of you to keep faith that truth and justice will overcome evil and lawlessness”.
