  • Tatiana Shchyttsova: “This is yet another provocation to incite hostility and hatred between Lithuanians and Belarusians”

    January 22, 2025

Provocative inscriptions appeared recently on a European Humanities University (EHU) building in Vilnius. Similar acts of vandalism have previously targeted the Belarusian Cultural Center, the “Kropka” store, a refugee aid center in Vilnius, and other places associated with the Belarusian diaspora.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Education and Science, Tatiana Shchyttsova, commented on this latest act of vandalism:

“Belarusians in exile deeply appreciate Lithuania’s hospitality and respect its culture, laws, and sovereignty. Our shared historical heritage is a foundation for pride and cooperation.

EHU holds great significance for our society, allowing Belarusian youth to pursue modern education in the social and humanitarian sciences, free from propagandist pressure.

Attempts to sow discord between Lithuanians and Belarusians through such provocations thankfully remain unsuccessful. Belarus and Lithuania share a rich history that teaches us collaboration and mutual respect. We condemn any actions aimed at undermining trust and the friendly relations between our peoples”.
