  • Talks at the White House: Release of political prisoners and the future of Belarus

    December 06, 2025

    In Washington, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Diplomatic Advisor, Dzianis Kuchynski, held talks with the Deputy National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump, Andy Baker. Mr. Kuchynski noted the United States’ outstanding diplomatic efforts and expressed hope that the humanitarian releases would continue and all political prisoners would be freed.

    On behalf of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Dzianis Kuchynski conveyed gratitude to the President for the release of more than 100 hostages of the regime and for appointing John Coale as the Special Envoy to Belarus – actions that demonstrate that Belarus is a priority for President Trump. Mr. Kuchynski emphasized that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya was the first person John Coale called after his appointment.

    Andy Baker and Dzianis Kuchynski discussed:

    1. the humanitarian process of releasing political prisoners in Belarus;
    2. the ongoing negotiations on Ukraine and their potential implications for Belarus;
    3. the restoration and strengthening of Belarus’ sovereignty and the launch of a democratic transformation;
    4. the continuation of the Strategic Dialogue between the United States and the democratic forces of Belarus;
    5. the regime’s current hybrid attacks against EU countries, including Poland and Lithuania, and the need to maintain pressure on the regime.

    Dzianis Kuchynski: “The future of the world is being shaped this week. That is why I am at the White House today on behalf of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. This is my third visit to the White House in the past five months.

    For the democratic forces, it is crucial that Belarus restore its independence and begin a democratic transition.

    I expressed gratitude for the outstanding diplomatic work of the US side in freeing the regime’s hostages – thanks to Donald Trump and the tireless efforts of John Coale and his team.

    I also expressed hope that the humanitarian releases will continue and all political prisoners will be freed”.
