Representatives of four Austrian parliamentary parties – Petra Bayr (SPÖ), Andreas Minnich (ÖVP), Veit Dengler (NEOS), and Meri Disoski (GRÜNE) – signed a joint statement during a meeting with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as part of her visit to Vienna.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed:
- Ways to secure the release of political prisoners;
- Continued support for the repressed, independent media, and human rights initiatives;
- The work and expansion of the group “For a Democratic Belarus” in the Austrian Parliament. In particular, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya invited MPs to take part in the meeting of the Alliance of “For a Democratic Belarus” groups to be held in Paris on October 6–7;
- Joint events dedicated to the Belarusian people’s struggle for freedom.
In addition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya urged Austrian MPs to take patronage over political prisoners and invited them to visit Warsaw and Vilnius to meet with former political prisoners and relatives of those still imprisoned.
