As part of her high-level political meetings, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held talks with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Rousopoulos. The meeting focused on further and deeper cooperation between PACE and Belarus’ democratic forces.
The parties discussed:
- Preparations for the June PACE session and continued cooperation, including the participation of the Coordination Council delegation in the Assembly’s work;
- A possible permanent office for Belarus’ democratic forces within the premises of the Council of Europe – as a symbol of support and Belarusian presence in European institutions;
- A new PACE resolution on transnational repression, including the persecution of Belarusians in exile.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed her gratitude for the work of PACE’s Special Rapporteur on Belarus, Ryszard Petru, and the adoption of the resolution that included Belarus in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also highlighted the important role of PACE in supporting the Belarusian democratic community and thanked the Assembly for its principled solidarity and the Luxembourg Solutions addressing the challenges that Belarusians in exile face.
