  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office representatives visited Latin America for the first time

    May 23, 2025

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Chief Advisor, Franak Viacorka, held a series of meetings with representatives of the government, parliament, and civil society of Argentina. The meetings were supported by the Embassy of Poland, which played a key role in organizing the visit.

    The visit included negotiations with:

    • Vice Minister of Defense;
    • Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Fernando Adolfo Iglesias;
    • Representatives of the Ministry of National Security;
    • The Argentinian Council on Foreign Relations;
    • Human rights defenders from CADAL.

    The following agreements were reached during the visit:

    • Argentina may consider allowing Belarusians to obtain residence permits and passports without acquiring additional documentation from the Belarusian authorities.
    • Argentina pledged not to extradite or deport Belarusian political refugees, remaining a safe country for them.
    • Plans were discussed for a joint event dedicated to the struggle for democracy in Latin America (Cuba, Venezuela) and Eastern Europe (Belarus), aimed at sharing experiences and highlighting Argentina’s support for democratic values.

    A key outcome was an agreement to cooperate on the international stage – within the frameworks of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the UN Human Rights Council.

    Mr. Viacorka also met with members of the Belarusian diaspora, which has an active presence in Argentina. Discussions focused in particular on challenges related to legal documents – including issues with apostilles and obtaining passports.

    Franak Viacorka: “This visit could mark the beginning of a new stage in relations between the Belarusian democratic community and the countries of Latin America, opening new opportunities for support and solidarity”.
