Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “1,000 days have passed since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. The number alone is terrifying. 1,000 days of inhumane, brutal war. 1,000 days of destruction and horrific deaths. 1,000 days of pain, fear, and anger.
We all hope that peace will soon come to Ukraine – instead of news about 200 missiles launched overnight, we will see reports of ended hostilities and the withdrawal of Russian troops. But instead of silence, Ukraine hears air raid sirens and suffers more destruction. Instead of peace, people experience more loss and endless grief.
And yet, Ukrainians do not surrender. The will of people fighting for their home is unbreakable. And I am proud. Proud of Ukrainians. And proud of Belarusians. Of those who have bravely and selflessly stood in defense of Ukraine. Of those who refuse to carry out criminal orders. Of those who reject propaganda and teach their children about peace. Of those who volunteer and support Ukrainians.
Of Belarusians who have stood against war for 1,000 days already.
These 1,000 days have shown how much strength lies within people. And each of us can be part of that strength. It doesn’t matter what exactly you do – whether you volunteer, speak the truth, help a neighbor, or simply preserve your humanity in a world where it’s often lacking. Every step and effort contribute to the day when the sky over Ukraine will finally be clear”.
