During the international LOGIN 2024 event in Vilnius, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya participated in a discussion on Belarus’ path to democracy, the challenges the country faces, its prospects, and opportunities.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya analyzed the state of human rights in Belarus and informed the participants about political prisoners held in the dire conditions of Belarusian prisons, including those kept incommunicado.
The leader also highlighted the work of Belarus’ democratic forces and addressed the role of the Belarusian diaspora in Lithuania. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya called on Belarusians and Lithuanians to find ways to collaborate and expand cooperation and counter the dictators’ efforts to divide the two nations and cause conflicts.
A significant topic during the conference was the pressure on the regime, the effectiveness of sanctions, and the priority of isolating the Lukashenka regime without isolating Belarusians.
“We must distinguish between Belarus and Russia. We must distinguish between the Belarusian people and the regime. It is crucial for the people to feel that they have a European perspective. The more connections between Belarus and Europe, the less influence Russia will have on our country”, emphasized Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya during the conference.
