  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya sent letters to European leaders ahead of the Washington summit

    August 18, 2025

On the eve of today’s summit in Washington, where President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Donald Trump, and European leaders will meet, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya sent letters to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

In her appeals, she outlined her position on Belarus and conveyed words of support for Ukraine:

“These days are of decisive importance not only for Ukraine but also for Belarus and for our entire region. We greatly value President Trump’s efforts to achieve lasting peace and are grateful to European leaders for their unwavering support for Ukraine. Our position is simple: Borders and sovereignty are inviolable, and Russia must end its criminal war.

For us, it is crucial to preserve the independence and sovereignty of Belarus, to free it from Russia’s control. On the eve of the Washington summit, I sent personal messages to our friends and allies – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Alexander Stubb, Secretary General Mark Rutte, and President Ursula von der Leyen – with our position on Belarus and words of support for Ukraine. I also asked them to convey to President Trump our sincere gratitude for his efforts to free all our political prisoners and stop political repression”.
