  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “On March 8, let’s make a strong statement: violence can’t be tolerated”

    March 08, 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed Belarusian women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Her address centers around the issue of violence against women. The leader notes that violence is often silenced but it must be spoken about. After all, any woman could have ended up in the place of Liza, who died in Warsaw.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I want to thank the brave women who shared their stories with the hashtag #хопіцьгвалціць (#stop_assaulting_us). You proved that even pain no longer stops women from shedding light on what so many girls and women experience. You shared your stories knowing that you may encounter responses like “It’s your fault” or “You shouldn’t have come on to him”.

I want each of you who has experienced violence to remember – you are not to blame. The one who committed the violence is always to blame.

Thank you for supporting and standing up for each other when you see injustice. Never doubt your strength. You can make the whole world hear your voice”.
