During her visit to Strasbourg, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a series of meetings with representatives of major political groups in the European Parliament. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya, together with Siarhei Tsikhanouski, attended meetings with the Renew Europe and Greens/EFA factions and met with the extended leadership of the Socialists and Democrats and Conservatives factions.
Her core message was to maintain the current strategy on Belarus and continue supporting political prisoners and their families, ensure that the Belarusian issue remains on the European agenda, and develop strategies in two directions – American and European.
Members of the European Parliament showed great interest in the Belarusian issue, with many questions for Sviatlana and Siarhei. Some questions were about their speech at the Plenary Session, while others focused on the current situation in Belarus.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized: “The struggle continues. The Lukashenka regime still supports Russia’s war against Ukraine. Belarus remains occupied, silenced, and used as a staging ground for aggression. But our resistance lives on – underground, in exile, and in prisons. Belarusians have not surrendered. And Europe must not give up either.
Lukashenka does not care about peace. He is part of the war. And when we talk about peace and the future security architecture in Europe, Belarus must not be excluded from these discussions. Without eliminating the regime, true peace in the region remains impossible”.
