Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held talks with the Minister of the Interior of Lithuania, Vladislavas Kondratovičius. The conversation was conducted in Belarusian – a gesture that highlighted the Lithuanian politician’s goodwill toward the Belarusian people. The Director of the Migration Department, Evelina Gudzinskaitė, and the country’s Ambassador-at-Large for Belarus, Asta Andrijauskienė, also attended the meeting.
Mr. Kondratovičius confirmed Lithuania’s continued support for Belarusians. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked Lithuania for its consistent solidarity and expressed gratitude for the decisions that make life easier for Belarusians residing in the country.
Key issues raised during the meeting included:
- Challenges in obtaining residence permits and official documents
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya proposed establishing a working group to quickly address these issues. The Minister assured her that each case is reviewed individually and that decisions can be appealed in court.
- Deadlines for vehicle re-registration
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya invited Lithuania to extend the deadline as owners of Belarusian-registered vehicles are now required to re-register their cars in the country.
Mr. Kondratovičius stressed: “Each year, the Belarus–Lithuania border is crossed about 1.5 million times, and security remains a top priority for Lithuania”. He also confirmed that border crossings remain open for passenger traffic.
