On January 13, former US National Security Council member, Ambassador Michael McFaul, visited Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office in Vilnius. Mr. McFaul, who served as the US Ambassador to Russia from 2012 to 2014, is known not only for his political activities but also media presence. He frequently provides commentary in the press on topics related to Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus.
During the meeting, the politicians discussed the outcomes of the US–Belarus Strategic Dialogue, with Mr. McFaul emphasizing that the Dialogue is an unprecedented event in US political life, as America, for the first time, began building relations with a non-governmental body.
Mr. McFaul and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed ways to hold Lukashenka and his accomplices accountable for the repression against Belarusians and involvement in the war. They also talked about holding a meeting involving representatives of Ukraine to address sanctions against the regime.
