As part of her visit to Bulgaria, the Belarusian leader met with the former prime minister, currently a member of Parliament, Boyko Borisov. The politician expressed support for Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the democratic forces of Belarus and expressed his hope to visit Belarus after the democratic transition. MP Daniel Mitov, who has agreed to become the chairman or co-chairman of the group “For a Democratic Belarus”, also participated in the meeting.
After the meeting, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed the Committee on European Affairs of the Bulgarian Parliament. Representatives of the major political parties took part in its hearing.
The leader’s speech focused on pressure on the regime, support for Belarusian media, human rights defenders, and civil society, as well as the critical situation with political prisoners. The hearing also addressed cooperation between Bulgarian and Belarusian youth organizations, student exchanges, and scholarships.
