Following Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hosted a working meeting focused on supporting Belarusians in Ukraine and developing cooperation with the democratic forces of Belarus.
The meeting was organized by the Parliamentary Group “For a Democratic Belarus” in partnership with the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Participants included:
- representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet and the Coordination Council;
- Belarusian volunteer fighters;
- Ukrainian MPs Vadym Halaichuk and Ihor Huz;
- Oleksandr Merezhko, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs;
- Yurii Barabash, Constitutional Court member;
- Yaroslav Chornohor, Ukraine’s Ambassador-at-Large for Belarus.
Participants discussed the key challenges currently facing Belarusians in Ukraine, including documents, legal status, and support for Belarusian volunteers. They addressed possible legislative solutions and coordination with Ukraine’s executive authorities.
The parties welcomed the establishment of new mechanisms for cooperation — in particular, the position of Ukraine’s Ambassador-at-Large for Belarus and the Mission of Democratic Belarus in Ukraine. They also discussed a possible intersectoral contact group on Belarus involving Ukrainian MPs, representatives of executive authorities, and the Belarusian democratic community. Such a group could ensure permanent coordination and joint work on issues related to Belarus and Belarusians in Ukraine.
