  • Parliamentary group “For a Democratic Belarus”: Stronger than ever – in the German Bundestag!

    July 02, 2025

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Constitutional Reform and Parliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, visited Berlin for talks in the Bundestag. One of the key outcomes of the visit was the revival of the parliamentary group “For a Democratic Belarus”. The group has been relaunched following the recent election, bringing together members of Germany’s three main political factions: the Christian Democrats, the Social Democrats, and the Greens.

    Anatoli Liabedzka pushed for the following practical steps:

    • Continued internship programs for Belarusian youth in the Bundestag, in which four Belarusians took part last year;
    • A solidarity campaign for political prisoners in Belarus, ideally starting in September to mark Ales Bialiatski’s birthday;
    • Health recovery programs for children affected by the Chornobyl disaster. A meeting on this is planned for autumn, involving MPs, Chornobyl-related initiatives, and the Belarusian diaspora;

    Engagement in German state parliaments (Landtage) and, in the longer term, small parliamentary groups to work directly with the Belarusian diaspora – particularly on issues like local self-governance. Key cities include Dresden, Munich, and Frankfurt.
