A rally in solidarity with political prisoners took place in Warsaw yesterday, with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Siarhei Tsikhanouski participating. This was Siarhei’s first public rally since his release from prison.
During her speech, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya:
- Shared personal emotions
“I had dreamed of this moment for so long, ever since the day Siarhei was arrested. At every rally, at every meeting with you during the 2020 campaign across Belarus, I dreamed that Siarhei would be standing next to me. I so badly needed his support and advice. And now he’s here. Free. My hope, my love, and my good-luck charm. After five long years”.
- Thanked Belarusians for their solidarity
“I want to thank you for your solidarity – for every donation, every letter to a political prisoner, every rally demanding their release. For the fact that the phrase ‘a Belarusian stands by a Belarusian’ truly means something to you. And I want to add that those who thought Siarhei’s release would cause division in the democratic movement were wrong. We are now more united than ever!”
- Called on people to continue the struggle
“This is only the beginning. More than 1,150 political prisoners are still behind bars. So let’s stand together until our whole country is free!”
