  • Exhibition on political prisoners in Belarus opened in Prague

    July 25, 2025

On July 24, an exhibition dedicated to political prisoners from Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine opened in Prague. It was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Czech NGOs People In Need, Prague Civil Society Centre, and Gulag.cz.

The exhibition tells the stories of real people – Nariman, Liudmila, Iryna, Maryia, Volha, Arseni, Nadzeya. Their names deserve to be heard, as each of them has become a symbol of courage and human dignity in dark times. Yet hundreds of other men, women, and young people remain behind bars simply for daring to speak up for freedom.

Today, the Czech Republic gave a voice to those who have been silenced.

The event, attended by diplomats, members of the international community, NGOs, and residents and visitors of the capital, was also joined by the Director of the Office of Belarus Democratic Forces in the Czech Republic, Kryścina Šyjanok:

“From July 18 to August 15, visitors to Rašínovo embankment can see both well-known and lesser-known stories of political prisoners from Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. Some of them have already been released, while others remain in inhumane conditions. What makes this exhibition special is that it was organized by the Czech MFA in cooperation with Czech NGOs. The Czech Republic’s position on political prisoners in Belarus remains unchanged: No one is free until all are free.”

The work of the Prague Office in supporting political prisoners was highlighted in the opening remarks by David Stulík, the Czech Government’s Special Representative for the Eastern Partnership and a long-time friend of free Belarus.

In May 2024, the Prague Office organized the First Congress on Political Prisoners in Belarus (#WithoutJustCause). The Second Congress will take place in September 2025 in Warsaw and Poznań.
