On November 10, Tallinn will host the first Belarus-Estonia Conference. The event is organized by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the Estonian Institute of Human Rights, and the European Endowment for Democracy. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya agreed to hold the conference during their meeting in June 2023.
The conference will feature opening remarks by Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and Mr. Tsahkna, with representatives from the United Transitional Cabinet, the Coordination Council, Belarusian democratic forces, the Estonian government and expert community also participating.
The event is aimed to strengthen relations between democratic Belarus and Estonia, as well as develop an effective strategy vis-a-vis Belarus. Discussions will focus on:
– mechanisms for holding the regime accountable;
– support for independent media and civil society in Belarus and in exile;
– future perspectives of Belarus.
