Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed the plenary session of the Baltic Assembly in Riga, where MPs from more than 15 countries participated. She emphasized that only a democratic Belarus can become a reliable partner for Europe and a guarantor of regional security.
Below are the key points from Ms. Tsikhanouskaya’s speech.
- Belarus is part of Europe, not the ‘Russian world’: “Today, as we celebrate Europe Day, I want to remind you: Belarus was, is, and will remain part of Europe. We, Belarusians, belong to Europe – by our history, our traditions, and our aspirations. Today we celebrate a Europe that, for us, is a beacon of democracy and prosperity. We celebrate a strong Europe, an independent Europe, a democratic Europe. For us, Belarusians, Europe is our destiny and our future”.
- Possible peace: “I believe that no lasting peace is possible as long as Belarus remains under the tyranny of Lukashenka and the control of Russia. Only a democratic Belarus can be a trustworthy partner for Europe and a pillar of security in our region”.
- Solidarity and mutual support: “Think of your support for Belarus not as charity but as an investment in your own security. Because military power alone is not enough without people willing to defend their freedom”.
