The winner of the Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award – one of the main independent prizes in Belarusian literature – was announced in Gdańsk. This year, the prize went to Siarhei Dubavets, the author of the book “Zanzibar. The Coming of Age of a Young Soul.” The writer’s new work is a moving exploration of a Belarusian’s journey toward self-identity.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya congratulates Mr. Dubavets on receiving the award:
“I feel proud of Belarusians when I see how talented our people are. You hold exhibitions, write books, make films – and this creativity brings us together. Thanks to people like Siarhei, Belarusian culture continues to grow every year. Thank you for your inspiring work”.
Previously, Siarhei Dubavets was also honored with the Cross of Belarus Revival for his outstanding contribution to Belarusian culture.
