During her visit to Poland, the Belarusian leader met with the country’s Minister of the Interior, Tomasz Siemoniak, in Warsaw. The Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet, Pavel Latushka, also joined the meeting.
The parties discussed the situation of political prisoners and possible ways to secure their release, including the case of Andrzej Poczobut. The dialogue addressed security issues at the Poland-Belarus border and Lithuania’s referral of the Lukashenka regime’s crimes to the International Criminal Court.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked Mr. Siemoniak for the efforts of the Interior Ministry’s working group that addresses the legalization of stay issues and residence conditions for Belarusians in Poland, as well as for the broad exceptions allowing Belarusian-registered vehicles to enter Poland. She handed over new proposals from the democratic forces on these issues and invited Poland to establish an interdepartmental working group on Belarus.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I am grateful to the minister for the meeting and for the support. As we continue our cooperation, we will work together to address the issues and challenges that Belarusians face. Poland has always stood by Belarusians, and I am thankful for the country’s principled stance in exerting pressure on the Lukashenka regime”.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also praised the Polish government and society’s contribution to combating the recent floods, noting the Belarusian diaspora’s active involvement in volunteer initiatives.
