    July 14, 2025

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, on the sidelines of the Dubrovnik Forum in Croatia.

They discussed the geopolitical and security situation in the region, as well as the recent releases of political prisoners, including that of Siarhei Tsikhanouski, which was secured thanks to the support of the US administration.

Ms. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized: “It is essential to continue joint efforts by the US and EU to secure the release of all those imprisoned and to stop repression in Belarus. A combination of pressure, solidarity, and diplomacy works, and we must keep going”.

Minister Tajani expressed strong support for the Belarusian people and democratic forces, confirming Italy’s readiness to act alongside the US and EU in support of freedom and democracy in Belarus.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also thanked Italy for its continued issuance of Schengen visas in Belarus; support for Belarus-related initiatives in the OSCE, EU, and UN; diplomatic engagement; and aid for civil society.
