Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Education and Science, Tatiana Shchyttsova, congratulates teachers on World Teachers’ Day. In her address, she emphasizes the importance of their work at a time when education in the country is being sacrificed for ideology and propaganda.
“It seems to me that your work is now the most important and, at the same time, the most difficult.
You have to show students the value of knowledge, while knowledge in the country is recklessly sacrificed for ideology and propaganda.
You strive to cultivate openness and trust in children, while the state persecutes people for dissent and fails to uphold its own laws.
You desire to teach children to appreciate the cultural diversity of the world and encourage them to always engage in dialogue, while the regime is declaring the entire so-called ‘Western world’ enemies.
You dream that your graduates become open-minded individuals who respect themselves and others, but the government has surrounded them with a tight circle of ideological demands and control with the sole purpose of instilling a lasting ‘fear of freedom’ in children and youth”.
