  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s statement on the reopening of crossings at the Poland–Belarus border

    September 25, 2025

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I am pleased that passenger connections between Belarus and Poland will be restored. Free movement of Belarusians across the border is of vital importance, as it means the ability to embrace loved ones, study, work, and see free Europe with one’s own eyes. We are grateful to the Polish side, with which the Office has remained in close contact over the past weeks.

It is evident that Poland has had to act in response to provocations by the Lukashenka regime. And it is Belarusians who suffer the most as a result of these provocations.

China’s constructive role in this situation deserves recognition. Visits to Warsaw and Minsk have contributed to this decision.

Economic pressure and control over the movement of goods are what force Lukashenka to make concessions. It was precisely because of the artificially created migration crisis and regular violations of airspace that neighboring countries had to defend themselves and build barriers.

The regime must stop migration attacks and repression, as well as release and rehabilitate political prisoners. Belarusian skies must truly be peaceful – without combat drones.

Belarus will become a safe country and a reliable neighbor – the kind of country Belarusians want it to be”.
