Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “‘Finally free!’ These are exactly the words we want to hear about all of our political prisoners. I am happy for everyone who will soon be able to embrace their loved ones, be reunited with their families, and gain access to essential medical care. This is an important humanitarian step, one that must continue. All political prisoners must be released and rehabilitated, and repression must end.
Today, according to human rights defenders, more than 1,300 people are officially recognized as political prisoners. And arrests in politically motivated cases continue.
Talk of ‘national unity’ rings hollow when the regime artificially divides people, jails them for their opinions for many years, and then releases some while forcing them to leave their country. True unity among Belarusians can only be achieved through freedom, respect for human dignity, and national dialogue.
Freedom to all political prisoners!”
