  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s first visit to Cyprus: What’s on agenda?

    April 10, 2024

    On April 9-10, the Belarusian leader will be on a working visit to Cyprus. The plans for the visit include:

    ⚪️ Meeting with the President of the country, Nicos Anastasiades;

    🔴 Talks with the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Harris Georgiades, and committee members;

    ⚪️ Dialogue with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou;

    🔴 Meeting with the Belarusian diaspora;

    ⚪️ Briefing for diplomats at the Embassy of Poland;

    🔴 Reception for Belarusian businesses at the US Embassy.

    During the meetings with Cypriot politicians, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya will emphasize the importance of efforts to defend the independence of Belarus, exert pressure on the regime, and hold it accountable. The Belarusian leader will also highlight the problems of the legalization of stay faced by Belarusians and ways to address them, including through support for the new Belarusian passport project. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya will also call for rehabilitation programs for former political prisoners, children of the repressed, veterans of the war in Ukraine, and their families.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This is our first national visit to Cyprus, and I am glad to see that discussions about Belarus will be held here at the highest level. In particular, with the president of the country, who also heads the government, we will discuss how we can support our political prisoners – both those who remain behind bars and those who have been released and require rehabilitation. I will also address a number of issues relevant to Belarusians living in Cyprus”.
