On October 21, Belarus celebrates Father’s Day. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya shares a heartfelt message:
“Dads, today is your day. I want to thank everyone who loves, protects, and supports their children, who knows how to be there even from afar, who is not afraid to teach their sons and daughters the most important things – to be honest and free.
In our family, Ahniya and Karnei haven’t seen their father for five years. But throughout all these years, Siarhei has been present in their lives – through videos, memories, smiles in family photos, and through the example he has always set.
Our son is now at the age when he speaks about his feelings less often and prefers to discuss news, politics, and artificial intelligence with his father. And our daughter still draws cards and hugs Siarhei tirelessly. All of this is a whole world of warmth and tenderness that often needs no words.
Seeing this love is an immense happiness. And I wish every family to feel this happiness – both those who are now together and those whom the regime has deprived of this right.
Sadly, this situation is all too familiar to Belarusian families. Some are behind bars because they wanted a better life for their children. Others spend more time abroad than at home because they work to make sure their families lack nothing.
That’s why I wish every father the chance to hear and say the simple words “thank you” and “I love you”. Happy Father’s Day!”
