Yesterday in Brussels, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Youth Policy and Students, Marharyta Vorykhava, received the Young Woman of Europe Award 2023, which annually acknowledges women who promote European values. Ms. Vorykhava dedicated the award to all young leaders of Belarus.
“Young people play a crucial role in shaping the future and protecting democracy. And this award recognizes the enormous potential and strength of our youth. We must be aware that democracy is not something we can take for granted. Defending it is a continuous struggle that requires vigilance, unwavering determination and courage to stand up to injustice”, said Marharyta Vorykhava.
She concluded her speech by announcing that in January she will join the Council of Europe’s Advisory Council on Youth: “A position there will allow me to continue my mission, strengthen the voices of young people, and support the struggle for democracy not only in Belarus, but also all across Europe.”
