  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “We are responsible for what our children believe in”

    February 02, 2024

The Belarusian leader commented on the reports that Belarus and Russia will create a unified history textbook for schools and higher education institutions:

“The regime has repeatedly tried to rewrite our history. It erased memorable dates and “canceled” national heroes from textbooks. That is what every dictatorship does: seeking to seize the past, they aim to control the future.

All of this reminds me of the Soviet times. Back then, books were also banned and historical facts were distorted. Those who doubted the “party line” faced pressure. But even in those conditions, people found ways to learn the truth and share it. It was the people who tried to preserve history, not the government.

Dear friends! Every step the regime takes under the guise of “integration” steals a piece of our independence. But even when they try to impose a nonexistent history on us, we must understand that we are the ones responsible for what our children believe in. And to tell them the truth, we don’t need unified textbooks with Russia”.
