In memory of the victims of the Chornobyl accident, the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya initiated the laying of flowers at the Chornobyl Mother Monument in Vilnius. Alongside the Belarusian leader, the ceremony was attended by the Ambassador at Large for Belarus of Lithuania, ambassadors from Norway, Canada, Spain, Ireland, and Estonia, as well as representatives of the embassies of Poland, the USA, Israel, and Ukraine. Belarusian activists and members of civil society organizations, including Ecohome, as well as Belarusian and Lithuanian media, were also present at the event.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Almost 40 years have passed since the Chornobyl accident. But we honor the memory and commit to the lessons of this tragedy. I am truly grateful to Belarusians and our international partners and friends who have joined us in laying flowers today. This event is not only about honoring the memory but also about supporting Belarusians in our quest for a free, democratic, and secure future”.
