  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Mother Language Day: “As long as our language lives, our nation will live”

    February 21, 2024

On February 21, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed the Belarusian people on the occasion of Mother Language Day:

“Just three years ago, I did not feel confident trying to speak Belarusian. You, my dear friends, inspired me, helped me, and motivated me.

Now my daughter Ahniya is learning new words and trying to speak Belarusian. She even reads in secret. She really likes Yury Nestsiarenka’s rhymes in the book “Neverahodny Svet”, the poems by Andrei Skurko, and the stories from “Ashukanak” by Yana Volskaya.

The Belarusian language is our unique password that only we know. Preserve our native language, protect it, and pass it on to your children. Because as long as our language lives, our nation will live”.
