Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting with the Belarusian Solidarity Center (BSC) in Warsaw today. The discussion included members of the BSC Board, Helena Niedźwiecka and Volha Dabravolskaya. Volha also leads the Legal Aid Department.
The meeting focused on legal support for repressed Belarusians, including former political prisoners in exile. The parties also covered practical matters of legal support, residency, asylum, and the everyday realities of integrating into life in Poland.
An important part of the conversation was identifying the key challenges faced by former political prisoners abroad:
- difficulties with legal status and documentation;
- access to medical, social, and psychological support;
- adaptation after imprisonment.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The Belarusian Solidarity Center has been standing by Belarusians in Poland for so many years, helping with residency, legal protection, and simple but vital matters when someone is suddenly left without solid ground under their feet. During the meeting, we discussed the issues that require systemic solutions and how to organize cooperation to provide even more consistent support for former political prisoners and repressed Belarusians in Poland. I am grateful to the BSC team for this daily work over all these years”.
