On the first day of her visit to Canada, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with a prominent Belarusian civic and political figure, the President of the Rada of the Belarusian Democratic Republic (BNR Rada), Ivonka Survila.
They discussed the situation in Belarus, as well as the current issues faced by the Belarusian diaspora. During the conversation, they highlighted the priorities of their work: strengthening Belarusian identity, language, and culture and advocating for the interests of Belarusians internationally.
Ms. Survila and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also discussed strengthening cooperation between the BNR Rada and the United Transitional Cabinet and agreed on regular meetings between the two bodies.
At the end of the conversation, the Belarusian leader ceremonially presented Ivonka Survila with the Cross for Revival of Belarus. The President of the BNR Rada became the first recipient of this award developed by the United Transitional Cabinet’s Heraldic Council.
