Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya began her working visit to Warsaw today by meeting with the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk. This meeting holds particular significance as Poland assumed the Presidency of the Council of Europe on January 1, opening new opportunities for cooperation between Poland’s government and Belarus’ democratic forces.
During the hour-long meeting, the leaders addressed significant concerns for Belarusians, discussing:
- Resolving challenges frequently faced by the Belarusian diaspora in Poland;
- Facilitating mobility for Belarusians within the country, including expanded visa issuance;
- Strategies for securing the release of Andrzej Poczobut and all political prisoners in Belarus;
- The situation at the Poland-Belarus border.
The conversation also covered plans for continued collaboration between Poland’s government and Belarus’ democratic forces. Mr. Tusk emphasized that Belarus will remain a priority during Poland’s Presidency of the EU.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “It was a warm and productive one-on-one meeting. I am grateful to the Polish government and Prime Minister Tusk for their steadfast support of Belarusians and consistent stance vis-a-vis the Lukashenka regime. Our cooperation is not only a symbol of solidarity but also a contribution to the shared fight for freedom and democracy in the region”.
