Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya continues her working visit to Iceland. Her meeting with the prime ministers of the Nordic Council countries, the first in this format for the Belarusian leader, became the highlight of the visit.
With Bjarni Benediktsson (Iceland), Mette Frederiksen (Denmark), Ulf Kristersson (Sweden), Petteri Orpo (Finland), and Jonas Gahr Støre (Norway), Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed:
📌 Assistance and possible ways to secure the release of political prisoners in Belarus, specifically Ales Bialiatski;
📌 Efforts to promote the Belarusian agenda within the European Union, NATO, and the Nordic Council;
📌 Further pressure on the Lukashenka regime, especially regarding human rights abuses;
📌 Support for the International Humanitarian Fund – with Norway, Sweden, and Denmark already contributing financially.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “First of all, let me thank the President, Halla Tómasdóttir, and the Prime Minister of Iceland, Bjarni Benediktsson, for the opportunity to participate for the first time in a Nordic Council meeting in this format. Belarusians’ voices must be heard at the highest levels. Let me thank each country within the Nordic Council for their principled stance and support for Belarus on our path to democracy”.
