Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, on the sidelines of the Congress of the European People’s Party. The parties discussed the legalization of stay issues faced by Belarusians in Italy, support for political prisoners and their families, and the next meeting of the EU foreign ministers, where the Belarusian issue will be discussed.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also called for raising the Belarusian issue at G7 events as Italy currently holds the group’s presidency. At the end of the meeting, the leader thanked the minister for Italy’s continued issuance of visas to Belarusians as the country issued the highest number of Schengen visas to Belarusians last year.
